Food Technology
Year 7 Food Technology – Global Cook
Year 7 students will spend 6 days in the food technology program. We look at foods from many cultures and how the fusion of these multicultural flavors has influenced our dinning habits. Students will learn kitchen routines, food safety, hygiene and healthy portion sizes. We start to discuss how food is produced, marketed and consumed by New Zealanders.
Year 8 Food Technology – Designer Desserts
Year 8 student will spend 9 days in the food technology program exploring:
delicious designer desserts
Cooking competitions are extremely popular to watch on TV and as a result there have been an increase in numbers of people cooking at home. Students will learn skills and knowledge of food technology while creating a one off designer dessert that will be served to guest judges. They will learn how to do taste tests, cooking hot and cold dishes, dessert options to share with the family and old fashion baking. Food Technology explores presentation of food, evaluations of students thinking, team work and time management skills. Desserts are a great way for children to gain confidence in the kitchen and learn to cook and apply basic skills in food technology. Students will have fun and master the art of cooking after dinner treats.
