Technology Centre
Our purpose built facilities service the technology needs of the local full primary schools. Specialised programmes cater for over 400 Year 7 & 8 students from Taupaki, Waitakere, Huapai, Riverhead, Timatanga and Waimauku Schools.
In Technology students learn the correct processes in order to create a solution for an authentic issue. This process includes learning knowledge ,researching, developing skills, being creative and producing and evaluating the final outcome.
Year 7 students attend the Technology Centre one day per week for half a year. They rotate around the three technology rooms every six weeks experiencing Hard Materials, Soft Materials and Food Technology. The main focus is on learning in the Technological Practice strand. The students will develop knowledge of the Technology process and begin to understand the language of Technology.
At the completion of these three cycles the students choose 2 out of the 3 options for their Year 8 cycle. These options consist of a total of 9 lessons in each where the students work through a more in depth programme.
The teaching staff come from a range of backgrounds and their specialist knowledge in their respective areas is extensive, allowing them to offer students a depth of technology education that is interesting and motivating.
The workshops are well resourced and offer students access to a wide range of materials and processes to explore, design and make products and systems that meet human needs. We are grateful that the Pinepac ITM group sponsor our centre. This is an important relationship that benefits a number of students in the Northwest region.
