Senior School

The great majority of primary Schools only have classes to year 6 but here at Taupaki we offer classes to year 8 which means your child does not need to go off to an Intermediate School for two years before making another shift to High School.
The senior section (year 7/8 classes) of the school offers your child many opportunities. Technology classes on a Monday for half a year where they learn about Food, Soft Material and Hard Material technology for the whole day. The other half year they learn about the media, both print and film, Art and Geography.
We believe in strong Reading, Writing and Mathematics programmes. The children have the opportunity to study novels by well known authors, experience writing poetry, narratives, plays and experimenting with language as well as problem solving challenges from the University of Otago in maths and the I.C.A.S. international assessments from the University of New South Wales. During our daily maths programme the children get to learn all the basics plus are extended into things such as basic bookkeeping and the Stock market. We have a wide range of leadership opportunities from House Captains to Student Council, Librarian, Sports and Wet Day monitors.

Achievement is recognised by the awarding of merit badges a wide variety of areas such as

House Captain  Student Council
 Sport Library Monitor
 Arts School Band
 Academic Student Leader
 Excellence Phys Ed
 Enviro Team Music Monitor
 Music Outdoor Education
These are colourful metal clip badges which the children are proud to wear.

We participate in a wide range of sports including soccer, swimming, softball, netball, badminton, volleyball, cross country, gymnastics and athletics and the pupils have the chance to represent their school in many of these.

Our Outdoor Education programme is one of the best around. Each year the entire senior school have a camp at either, Willow Park, Eastern Beach (even years in term 1) or M.O.E.C. on Motutapu Island (odd years early in term 2)  As well there are three other optional Outdoor Experiences.Ski Camp in late August every year, Waitakere Adventure (5 day tramp along the Waitakere ranges)odd years in late November and the Whakapapa Experience in Tongariro national Park (tramping, caving, white water rafting, abseiling etc) even years in late November.

Also we have a foreign languages programme which is currently giving instruction to the entire senior school in Spanish but we have also had Mandarin and French.
