Middle School
The Middle School Syndicate at Taupaki carries on from the great foundations laid in the Junior School. The classrooms are grouped together to form a sense of identity for the year 4 to 6 children and combined times of fitness, sport and team assemblies also help create a team spirit.
In the curriculum we place a high priority on literacy (reading, writing, spelling) and numeracy (number knowledge and strategies, maths strands such as Statistics, Geometry and Measurement). Children are cross-grouped for numeracy to ensure the teaching and learning can be as targeted as possible. Inquiry learning is also a focus each term.
As they move up the school, children are encouraged to grow in their independent work habits, as well as learning to work together towards their goals. Children are invited to be a bigger part of the learning process by identifying their needs and starting to monitor and assess their progress. Middle School children also have the chance to learn Spanish, a fantastic opportunity to get to know another language and culture, in addition to a Music programme with a specialised teacher.
As with the whole of Taupaki School, we continue to focus on the core values of Respect, Nurture, Personal Best and Learning as the basis for successful learning and community at school. Children take more ownership of the Knowledge Net learning management system that allows for solid home-school communication. Regular newsletters also foster this partnership.
A real advantage of Taupaki is that after Middle School, children can easily move directly to the Senior School, which minimises disruption in the children’s learning and enables them to build on their previous six years at Taupaki and take up leadership opportunities. We have a fantastic team of committed teachers and look forward to seeing you in our syndicate!
